Fenugreek Organic

One of the oldest recorded medicinal herbs, and has been regarded as a cure for just about every ailment known to man. Fenugreek has a most beneficial action on cleansing the blood. A wide range of uses were found for fenugreek in ancient times. Medicinally it was used for the treatment of wounds, abscesses, arthritis, bronchitis, and digestive problems. Traditional Chinese herbalists used it for kidney problems and conditions affecting the male reproductive tract. Fenugreek seeds can be sprouted loose in a jar or strainer/colander with small gaps, my preference is to not mix Fenugreek sprouts with other sprouts. The reason for this is that the seed husk of the fenugreek seed becomes slimy and decomposes quickly, so if it’s mixed with other sprouts it can get caught up in the sprout mass especially if the others are sprouting small lateral roots, which then makes them hard to separate and wash away, meaning that they hang around and start to decompose creating mould problems.

They can also be grown so the green leaves become larger by growing them in one of our micro-green/vertical sprouting systems, here again the seed husk can become a problem as it can tend to stick to the leaf and dry in place, the trick to alleviate this problem is to cover the seed with a small layer of potting mix or coco fibre, what happens here is that as the shoot pushes up through the soil the sticky husk gets dragged off the leaf and it stays embedded in the potting mix.
They can also be grown in larger pots or planter box using the young leaves in salads or as a steamed leaf vegetable and added to soups and stews. Leaves of young plants are very tasty, resembling the flavour of fresh peas.

Health Benefits - AI

Fenugreek sprouts offer a variety of health benefits, often amplified by the sprouting process which enhances their nutritional value:

  • Blood Sugar Regulation: Fenugreek sprouts are particularly noted for their ability to help regulate blood sugar levels. They can enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce glucose absorption in the digestive tract, making them beneficial for managing diabetes.
  • Aids Digestion: These sprouts are known to aid digestion. Sprouting makes the nutrients more accessible and can decrease fiber content in a way that makes it easier to digest and absorb.
  • Anti-inflammatory Properties: Fenugreek sprouts possess anti-inflammatory qualities.
  • Antioxidant Power: They are rich in antioxidants, which help protect the body’s cells from oxidative damage.
  • Appetite Control: Research suggests that fenugreek sprouts can have appetite-suppressing properties, which may assist in controlling hunger and reducing food intake.
  • Enhanced Nutrition: The sprouting process itself boosts the overall nutritional profile of fenugreek seeds, making the sprouts even more beneficial.
