1 x 1.5ltr Colander Small with clear Perspex cover with (clip and silicon plug), a colander cleaning tool, along with 250 mls of organic nutrients There are many different sprouters available, the best we have found is also the cheapest(now that’s a nice change) & that is a BPA free plastic colander which has narrow slots & comes with a drainage bowl. This is a quality 1.5ltr colanders manufactured in Japan, they can be used with seed sizes ranging down to that of Alfalfa and Red Clover, which will double their size once they are soaked i.e. soak separately overnight 8 – 12 hours in the base of the colander or better still a ceramic or glass bowl i.e. for the initial overnight soak.
The best method for storing the sprouts is just to store them in the fridge, inside the colander with the metal clip placed at the other end so the cover sits flush, this stops them from drying out, excess moisture condenses and drops through the grill in the colander base bowl.
Most modern fridges are designed to be frost free and in the process keep the air dry, this is not ideal for leafy greens, that’s why fridges try to create a little bit more humidity in their crisper section. But you still have to negotiate condensation, hence the ribs in the base of the crisper. Our vegetable storage system is a simple way to solve these 2 issues i.e. drying out and getting rid of excess condensation which occurs if you store them inside a container which doesn’t have the built-in drainage system as the colanders do.
