470x170mm Tray Kits
This picture shows some of the options regarding how you can build your Microgreen kit, grown in 470x170 trays.
On the left you see a simulation of the base light stand and with the possibility of adding 3 extra shelves meaning a total of 4 growing shelves each under 1 x 10w light (just select the base and the number of extra shelves you require i.e the power supply will support 4 of these lights.
On the right top you see them growing on the window ledge, growing them on the window ledge you can have up to 3 shelves, there are 2 different base types depending on the width of your window ledge.
Right we see them being grown in punnets, best when small quantities are required e.g. just replant a punnet every time you have a salad, In the centre and bottom we see the addition of dividers, these allow you to grow the Microgreens in a very dense environment, without the dividers they would mesh together and pull each other out when you try to separate them. Top left we see Broccoli and Radish being grown with the grill insert, this system is better when you want to grow larger quantities it is also easier to control the water level. Click to hide

[cm_tooltip_parse]Base Kit for Bookshelf / Bench Top Light Stand. The kit is designed to help you grow micro-greens or herbs on a kitchen bench top or bookshelf or similar where you have limited depth. You have the option of 2 heights the smaller height is ideal for micro-greens and comes with 2x 10 W lights, the larger height can be used to grow small potted herbs and comes with 3x 10 W. lights. As you will see in the following pictures there is a range of different ways in which you can do the micro-greens or potted herbs, these can be purchased separately in the parts section for this particular tray type. If you are choosing the 2 shelf option then you need to select 1 of the tray, colour options as the 2nd shelf needs the support arms to support the trays as well as to attach the lights.
With regard to the light/tray support arms, there are 2 types. One type is narrow will & just designed to fit the width of our rectangular tray (this 1 is used on the base shelf, although most people will just remove the front bar and place the growing micro-greens or pot plants plants directly on the shelf or bench, if you don't need the extra room i.e. growing microgreens, then you can leave the front metal cross piece & place the tray on the base arms and place the insect traps underneath. The other one is wider and allows you to place the extra i.e. 2nd or 3rd light (also to note they are attached to these arms with a rotating connection), this is very convenient when growing in a bookshelf as you can pivot the outer light back in towards the cupboard back wall. Note if you are just going to use it on a kitchen bench-top, and you do not want the support arms/light extending out past the edge of the trays then please let us know and we'll exchange the longer arms for short arms, the short arms will support up to 4 lights. This is a lifter that can be used to lift the trays up to another level. This is very helpful when using the medium height shelf to grow such things as rocket, silverbeet, basil, in our punnets i.e. Bringing the trays closer to the light during the early stage of growth. Click to hide
[cm_tooltip_parse]This kit is the extra shelf that you can attach to our window ledge base kit you can choose between 2 colour trays and different heights of the 2nd shelf. On the left we are just growing micro-greens in punnets, on the right we are growing micro-greens in punnets on the bottom shelf which are also sitting on a grill (these can be added separately to you order) and on the top shelf we have herbs growing in pots. So if you're growing small height plants like micro-greens i.e. short-term (2 weeks) then you can get away with the smaller height, however if you growing taller plants than you need the extra height as generally the sun will come through the window at an angle, meaning that the tray at the base will receive less sunlight than the tray at the top. As you can see the pictures can be used to grow sizeable small-scale leaf greens like Kale, ruby red Silver-beet (Chard), great for Rocket, also an excellent solution where people are only going to grow small amounts e.g. you can fit up to 6 per tray meaning in one tray you can have various stages of growth of the 1 or 2 Micro-greens or just grow a variety if you are a small-time Micro-green eater. The 3A eBay (top left) we purchase this directly from eBay and we do not supply a warranty. We have found that sometimes they fail quickly and sometimes they last forever (we check them before sending them to make sure they're not dead on arrival), however you get them much cheaper on eBay (see product Info below), which means you can have a few left over for backup.
The other 2 power supplies we purchase directly from the supplier and give a one year warranty.
We have discovered that using the cable splitter purchase from eBay is okay for a few lights but for multiple lights the wire is very thin and they tend to overheat, so we suggest you purchase the one that we offer as it is thicker wire and higher quality. I use Hydrogen Peroxide or H2O2 in a spray bottle for Microgreens i.e. spraying the seeds and the paper towel at the base of the tray.
The H2O2 has 2 functions one is it releases oxygen into the water and it also counteracts any mould that may lie dormant attached to the outside of the seeds.
I recommend adding 3 mls to a 750 ml spray bottle, a full pipette is 3 mls. It is generally recommended to keep the H2O2 in the refrigerator to minimise evaporation, I personally store in the freezer, it does not freeze, further reducing its tendency to evaporate. the reflector panels can be mounted on the front and the back of the stands made for these type of trays i.e. 470x170 tray, e.g. on the kitchen bench where you do not have a white reflective backdrop.
